How to Brew Iced Loose Leaf Herbal Tea
Making iced herbal tea using Sacred Blossom Farm loose leaf teas
Learning how to brew iced loose leaf herbal tea is simple and far more flavorful than store-bought tea bags. In this guide, you’ll learn exactly how we make iced herbal tea at Sacred Blossom Farm using whole loose leaf herbs grown on our Wisconsin farm.
Why is Sacred Blossom Farm loose leaf tea the best option for iced tea?:
Our botanicals are whole and natural. The herbs aren’t pulverized, so the flavor, freshness, and medicinal constituents are as potent as can be.
Our tea blends are 100% herbs, mostly grown on our Wisconsin farm within the past 12 months.
Loose leaf teas can be brewed twice (or more), so they are usually more economical than teabags.
Our variety of blends and individual bulk herbs allows you to create your own custom tea blends.
First, get your hands on any of our loose leaf tea blends.
Or create a blend of your own with our bulk herbs!
Each of our 8 herbal teas will surprise you with new flavors once you’ve tried them iced. Angel is amazing. We also sell 17 botanicals individually so that you can practice your herbal alchemy on family and friends.
SIMPLE ICED HERBAL TEA RECIPE
Herbal teas are very forgiving. Don’t worry too much about the amounts - if you like strong tea, add more herbs. Cut the recipe in half for a quart of iced tea. Pour carefully!
How Long Should Herbal Tea Steep for Iced Tea?
You may choose to steep for longer than 8 minutes for stronger flavor. More herbal constituents are extracted with longer steep times, though bitter flavors may come through.
For a large batch of iced tea, a colander works best to strain with initially. The tea will still be very hot, so use caution! A ceramic pitcher is recommended as glass has the potential to shatter. Hard plastic may also be used.
Finally, strain again into a half-gallon container using our basket strainer. Add ice to fill.
Our basket strainer is a superfine mesh, allowing no small particles into your precious infusion. Best of all, it’s stainless steel and reusable rather than disposable teabags. This is a must-have for any loose leaf tea drinker.
HOW LONG IS ICED TEA GOOD FOR?
Half Gallon Iced Tea Recipe:
Choose your refreshing herbal tea blend.
Pour 1 quart of near-boiling water over 1/2 cup of herbs.
Steep 8+ minutes.
Strain using a colander into a non-glass container.
Strain using superfine mesh strainer into a half-gallon container.
Top off with ice & enjoy for 24 hours!
A few tips:
For smaller servings of iced tea, you may use a French press, a pitcher with a built-in strainer, or reusable teabags for steeping.
Add local honey, fresh fruit, or any other delicious ingredients you love in cold beverages.
Letting herbs steep overnight results in a very potent infusion that is great to sip on the following day - especially blends with roots and barks that benefit from a longer extraction time.
Add ice to taste. Larger ice cubes will melt slower, diluting your drink less and giving you more time to enjoy it!
